Another advertiser pulls out of Limbaugh’s show! This makes 7

NEW YORK — A flower company is the seventh advertiser to pull its ads from conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh’s radio program in reaction to his derogatory comments about a law student who testified about birth control policy.

ProFlowers said Sunday on its Facebook page that it has suspended advertising on Limbaugh’s program because his comments about Georgetown University student Sandra Fluke “went beyond political discourse to a personal attack and do not reflect our values as a company.”

The six other advertisers that say they have pulled ads from his show are mortgage lender Quicken Loans, mattress retailers Sleep Train and Sleep Number, software maker Citrix Systems Inc., online data backup service provider Carbonite and online legal document services company LegalZoom.

ProFlowers had said on Twitter that posts it received about Limbaugh’s remarks affected its advertising strategy. ProFlowers is an online flower delivery service.

Limbaugh called the 30-year-old Fluke a “slut” and “prostitute” last week after she testified to congressional Democrats in support of national health care policies that would compel employers and other organizations, including her university, to offer group health insurance that covers birth control for women.

He apologized to Fluke on Saturday after being criticized by Republican and Democratic politicians and after several advertisers left the show.

Clear Channel’s Premiere Radio Networks Inc. hosts Limbaugh’s program, one of the country’s most popular talk radio shows. The company is supporting Limbaugh, whose on-air contract with Premiere runs through 2016.

“The contraception debate is one that sparks strong emotion and opinions on both sides of the issue,” Premiere Networks said in a statement emailed Sunday by spokeswoman Rachel Nelson. “We respect the right of Mr. Limbaugh, as well as the rights of those who disagree with him, to express those opinions.”

I don’t know for sure, but I read that Proflowers only suspended their adds on his show for 1 week. Stinks as much as the Komen crackpots.

Agreed, I think we should keep the spotlight on the advertisers just like with Komen and see if they don’t revert back to their bad behavior when the pressure is off.

Just for clarity’s sake … I checked ProFlowers’ announcement on Facebook and did a quick Google search and found nothing to indicate they were only suspending their advertising for one week.

One week? I can’t imagine they are that dumb. Anyway, if that is so, we need to keep up the pressure.

That was an apology? How could u tell? Shouldn’t an apology have at least a smidgen of remorse?

I guess I’m more surprised that it took this long for the backlash against this moron. He’s been polluting our airwaves far too long. This hypocritical sob forgets how his sorry self was in the depths of dispair while addicted to narcotics – wonder who footed the bill for his addiction? Did his unethical doctors write the scrips that his insurance company paid for?

This poor excuse of a human being only appeals to the ignorant and hateful bottom feeders in our society.

Really wish he’d go away – I’d love to send him a year’s worth of oxycontin –

What’s weird is that Limbaugh seems to believe that the more times a woman has sexual intercourse, the more birth control pills she needs to take. What planet has he been living on for the last forty or fifty years?

He’s been married four times, and while between wives was caught with a bottle of Viagra going to the Dominican Republic ( one of the world’s most popular sex tourism destinations).

With his life experience, you’d think by now that he’d understand “the pill”.

And Limbaugh’s employer Clear Channel’s Premier Radio Networks is owned by Bain Capital. Yep, Romney.

Exactly what right did Limbaugh have to slander a young woman over the airwaves. He obviously had not listened to what she had to say or, if he did listen, he chose to twist and turn her statements into something far different. If I controlled the radio stations he is on, I’d switch him off permanently. Maybe Clear Channel needs a lawsuit from the young woman in question.

Apparently, 11 have pulled out as of this afternoon (Mon). Sign every petition you can, tweet your brains out and maybe, just maybe we can get the misogynist bastard off of the airways. It’s going to take a mighty big air purifier to do it.

Despite Apology, after 3 days and 53 attacks…. Limbaugh Continues Attacks On Fluke For Fourth Day!!

    Rush REFUSES to stop!!

AOL has dropped him as has Sears…and now the ONLY radio station in Hawaii has taken him off the airwaves!

Female veterans are insisting he be taken off of military airwaves as well.

    Where is the GOP “leadership”?

McCain FINALLY said something after 3 days of attacks and a green light because of Limbaugh’s faux apology.

It only took from last Wednesday until this Monday….how pathetic.

Even WORSE is is daughter Megan, a paid pundit on MSNBC continues to stay silent.

What about Olympia Snow, she’s retiring anyway…WHERE ARE THE GOP WOMEN??

Romney thinks he has his hands tied because Bain Capitol whom he is currently HEAVILY invested in and continues to pay him MILLIONS of $$$ annually … Limbaugh’s boss!!

Bain owns 50% of Clear Channel who signed a $400 MILLION contract with Limbaugh!

    The entire GOP are COWARDS….everyone!

Their lack of moral conviction is as disgusting as it is pathetic!

Partner this with the personhood laws that abolish birth-control, stem cell research and even in-vitro fertilization, forced ultrasounds, Santorum speaking out against birth-control…repeatedly…. and top it off with a peaceful protest in Virginia about these government mandated ultrasounds …resulting in 30 arrests out of 500 protesters…who were confronted with state troopers and…SWAT teams fully outfitted with automatic weapons….REALLY!!

These state laws will make felons of women and their Doctors.

Good luck with the women’s vote this year!

Any woman voting for the GOP is committing an act of shear lunacy.

Just saw a scroll on MSNBC that said ‘nine advertisers pull their spots from Limbaugh.’ And at least two radio stations have dropped him.

The GOP have been happy to have Rush as their spokesperson for years..that says everything you should need to know about the current republican party.

Many of us remember the days before the “southern strategy”, before they figuratively sold their souls to the religious right and the hate-mongers like Rush Limbaugh and FOX news.

There is no chance for rebuilding or rebranding now, because they can never separate their brand of “Christian” theology, racism, homophobia and corporate ownership from the current one.

The hypocrisy of this GOP is..stunning.

Thinking conservatives will have to start another party, because there is absolutely no “salvation” for this one.
Are advertisers just now figuring out that this guy is a crazy hate-monger?

We went back and (easily) found 10 quotes that should have sent advertisers heading for the hills long before Fluke got in Rush’s crosshairs.

    1. “In Obama’s America, the white kids now get beat up, with the black kids cheering, ‘Yeah, right on, right on, right on’ … Kid shouldn’t have been on the bus anyway. We need segregated buses — it was invading space and stuff.” Source

    2. “If homosexuality being inborn is what makes it acceptable, why does racism being inborn not make racism acceptable? … We are born that way. We don’t choose it. So shouldn’t it be acceptable, excuse — this is according to the way the left thinks about things.” Source

    3. “Barack the Magic Negro“

This original song aired on The Rush Limbaugh Show several times. Chip Saltzman, a 2008 candidate for RNC chair, put it on a mix CD and distributed it to his colleagues. The gift backfired; Michael Steele was elected instead.

    Here, Limbaugh defends the song:

    4. [To an African-American caller] “Take that bone out of your nose and call me back.” Source

    5. “Have you ever noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson?” Source

    6. [To a caller arguing that black people need to be heard] “They are 12 percent of the population. Who the hell cares?” Source

    7. [When a Mexican won the New York Marathon] “An immigration agent chased him the last 10 miles.” Source

    8. Jared Loughner has the Democrats’ “full support”

Limbaugh suggested that the shooter of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, a Democrat, was being aided by the same party:

“What Mr. Loughner knows is that he has the full support of a major political party in this country. He’s sitting there in jail. He knows what’s going on, he knows that. … The Democrat party is attempting to find anybody but him to blame. He knows if he plays his cards right, he’s just a victim. … That smiling mug shot — this guy clearly understands he’s getting all the attention and he understands he’s got a political party doing everything it can, plus a local sheriff doing everything that they can to make sure he’s not convicted of murder — but something lesser.” Source

    9. “The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. They’re invested in black coaches and black quarterbacks doing well. I think there’s a little hope invested in McNabb and he got a lot of credit for the performance of his team that he didn’t really deserve.” Source

    10. “Look, let me put it to you this way: The NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it.” Source

Even Peter Gabriel wants nothing to do with Rush anymore. Republican politicians are denouncing him. So the racist shtick was just Rush being Rush, right? He may think football players are no different from gang members, but at least he’s not sexist. Oh, he is? All right, I guess we have to pull our ads now.

Or is the level of publicity the only difference here?
