Huntsman: ‘Are You A Sarah Palin Republican?’
Jon Huntsman has been on a quest to reach out to Republican voters who would prefer to see a moderate candidate run against President Obama as opposed to an ideologically pure one with little chance of winning a general election, but he was put on the hot seat about this very issue on Meet the Press today, when David Gregory brought up Huntsman’s glowing speech about 2008 vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin at the Republican National Convention three years ago.
In the speech, Huntsman declared to the audience, “We are looking for Sarah!” and praised her for having an “independent spirit.” Gregory took the opportunity to ask Huntsman if he was a “Sarah Palin Republican.” Huntsman then began a series of careful explanations as to why he gave such words of praise to a candidate who many would consider part of the Republican extreme Huntsman is now so viciously decrying.
“I was asked to introduce her and nominate her because I think I was about the only person who actually knew her after John McCain had picked her as a running mate. I was chair of the Western Governor’s Association, I’d worked to a limited extent with Sarah Palin, so when you’re looking for somebody who can actually go up and nominate her, I was asked to do it and I did as told.”
Gregory asked if this meant Huntsman didn’t actually believe the United States was ready for Palin at the time, and Huntsman further explained that he felt indebted to McCain, a “good friend,” and did in fact believe Palin could have made a suitable vice president. Gregory pressed further, asking if Huntsman shared some of her views, and Huntsman admitted he’s not quite sure how much he has in common politically with Palin, but said he would assume they were in line with “principles of conservative governance.”

Why can’t they give Palin up and kick her to the curb? She still after all these years has no credibility and has never concerned herself with principles OR the idea of being conservative and she knows nothing about governance! You know this shows once again that people do not look into the true record of those they support. It is a sign of failing as ‘a leader’ to publicly give undeserved accolades to Sarah Palin. So, Huntsman is OUT!

I agree Syrin, but if he or any of the other candidates kick her to the curb as they undoubtedly all would like to, they’d be OUT anyway because all her rabid, foaming at the mouth, TP followers would kick them to the curb for not being TRUE conservatives. I’d love to hear what they say about her in private. 🙂

I think it speaks volumes that they had to dig hard for someone that remotely ‘knew’ her through the Western Gov’s Assoc. She was young, feisty and confident – belying the hot mess she was as a woman who inexplicably found herself to be a State’s “Chief Executive,” completely out of her depth.
I truly am mystified Syrin, wouldn’t you agree, even though she’s riding in the comfort of a low-information conservative market for speaking gigs and donations, she really could have worked her bipartisan record to become more mainstream appealing; however, she just inhaled red-meat like a petroleum emission on the campaign trail and went more and more Right – and to the fringes no-less. That’s what happens when you’ve got a no-account spouse and BFF staff that do nothing to back up what you lack.
The postmortem on Palin’s tiny political career is really going to be curious in a few more years. Though she’ll rear her stupid head every election cycle, she really is done. But judging from the candidates that are following her low bar, unfortunately, she did set the stage for unelectable characters who seek to buffer their hire-ability rather than electability.
She really had Herb Cain’s number as Flavor-of-the-Week. It takes one to know one.

Yes, I am mystified! Along with perplex, vex, puzzled, baffle, bewilder, flummox, stupefy and amazed!
Being dumbfound has been documented.. Pick heats up an Alaskan town – Chicago Tribune Sep 1, 2008 – Sherry Whitstine, a local conservative blogger, was dumbfounded by the selection of Palin, and not in a good way.

I agree, and I find it hugely disappointing that he doesn’t have the guts to call her out for what she is and what she stands for. Talk about misreading him. 😦

Any one who supports or supported her and can’t admit that she is a very bad person without any morals, not to mention many other flaws, and untreated mental illness is a sleazeball. The conservatives always prop each other up, no matter how low they are, there is no integrity with the exception of a handful of pundits and past politicians. I learned years ago if it comes from a conservative there is a 99% chance it’s a lie.
