The Rogue: Palin has neither commented on the book nor refuted any of it allegations.

Viewpoints: Did book on Palin contribute to her decision not to run?

Sarah Palin’s attacks on the “lamestream media” notwithstanding, the national political press finds her so fascinating – like watching a circus in progress – that she has received far less negative coverage than she would have people believe.

The noted author Joe McGinniss remedies that in his book, “The Rogue: Searching for the Real Sarah Palin,” a highly criticized work to which he devoted months living next door to Palin in Wasilla, Alaska, and for which he was roundly skewered by her and threatened by her supporters.

Yes, I'm a Conservative Christian Republican. See my halo?

He reports that Palin subscribes to an extreme evangelical religious philosophy that believes the Rapture – the return of Jesus to earth – will occur in her lifetime. He also accuses her, based on more than 100 interviews with Alaskans, of being paranoid, mean-spirited and vindictive – hardly Christian virtues.

“Controversial” is a much overused word, but controversy fairly leaps off the pages of McGinniss’ book, given its gossipy tone and liberal use of anonymous sources, which has raised the question of whether he was searching for Palin, or searching for dirt on Palin.

He may have provided the answer to that when he responded on his blog to questions of whether he had an agenda.

“My agenda,” he said, “is to assure that never again will someone as unqualified, as religiously and politically extreme, as uneducated and unintelligent, and as vicious and venomous, come within a few percentage points of achieving an office that would put its holder only a heartbeat away from the presidency.”

It’s probably only a coincidence that Palin, the vice presidential running mate for John McCain in 2008, decided not to run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012 at virtually the same time McGinniss’ book was being published. But the book does, indeed, raise questions that she would have to answer and that could become fodder for her opponents.

Thus far, she has neither commented on the book nor refuted any of it allegations. To do so would no doubt pump up sales, which are already lagging because of her withdrawal from the presidential race, and she certainly would realize no benefit from doing that.

McGinniss would like to take some of the credit for her decision but also thinks it was because “she’s just lazy and disorganized and too busy making money to care about anything else.”

These are tough words from someone who never even got so much as a five-minute interview with the subject herself but relied heavily on aggrieved Alaskans whom Palin had offended and, in many cases, fired when she was Wasilla’s mayor and Alaska’s governor.

In most cases, she replaced those who were fired with fellow believers or unqualified cronies and, of that, the record seems indisputable.

To the criticism from medic critics about his use of anonymous sources, McGinnis wrote in a column for USA Today that anonymity has often been a necessary aspect in writing about government or public figures and that many in the mainstream press, including the New York Times and the Washington Post, have done so.

It also seems reasonable to think that some in the political press who have criticized the book have done so out of jealousy, or guilt for not having done their own due diligence on Palin and allowing themselves to be caught up in what a Los Angeles Times reporter called her “electrifying presence.”

McGinniss is no rookie reporter. He first became known nationally in 1968 with “The Making of the President,” which focused on Richard Nixon and, as the title implies, unmasked the stage-managing and packaging of political campaigns. It became a classic of campaign coverage.

Given that background, it seems strange that McGinniss apparently did not talk to McCain, the man who thrust Palin into the national political spotlight three years ago, or any of McCain’s staff.

Did they know of her extreme religious convictions? Did they know of her actions as mayor and governor? How well was she vetted?

The most questionable section of the book suggests Palin might not have given birth to Trig, the Down syndrome child she showcased throughout her 2008 campaign, but got the child through an arranged adoption for political purposes – to enhance her appeal to anti-abortionists.

Much of this speculation is based on innuendo and some odd circumstances surrounding her pregnancy. But it also suggests a level of cynicism and manipulation that even McGinniss concedes is difficult to imagine, and it seems impossible that a subterfuge of that magnitude would not have been leaked at some point over the last three years. So why include it?

McGinniss claims that those in Alaska who know Palin best believe a faked birth “was something she was eminently capable of doing.”

Palin remains a major American celebrity and, even though she is not running next year, it is apparent, based on what she has said, that she intends to remain a significant political force. She’s still in demand as a speaker to tea party and other conservative groups.

My conclusion is that those who have no use for Palin or her politics will read “The Rogue” to have their opinions validated, and those who adore her will consider it just another “lamestream media” attempt at undermining their heroine.

I doubt many minds will be changed either way.

    You’re absolutely correct!!
The other reason may be, if she did respond, it would open her up for real questions by the MSM.
How, for example, would she respond if a Reporter asked her about the Babygate questions?? And she would surely have to worry about conflicting statements she has already made regarding the same.
I think ‘The Rogue’ has her terrified! I can’t think of a better place for her head to be.

I’m sorry for Joe McGinnis that the book didn’t reach #1, but it sure “helped” stop SP in her tracks and the release could not have been more timely. Perhaps, the publishers and all associated with the book thought that she would have announced by the time of the release. Boy, that would have been some havoc! I bought, read a copy, and it is being passed around. Even if some folks have an inkling of SP’s lack of qualifications, some don’t know about the far right Evangelicals who are trying to make America a “Christian” nation. Joe’s book is educational about this part of SP’s rise, and will help us not be so idle about letting these types get a foothold into our politics. – i hope –

First .. I would like to share by heart and hurt in what I see happening to the Christian faith and biblical truth.
It has been clear that those who protect, make excuses and worship Sarah Palin have not endured sound doctrine She like many others have found a audience that want their ears tickled and give up the truth for a lie.. 2Tim 4:3

With that said.. The idea of the rapture – the return of Jesus to earth – why is it attributed to an extreme evangelical religious philosophy? It’s quite mainstream Christian to believe in a GOD who created the world and man, who has established HIS story throughout the ages and will return. It’s been that way from thousands of years.

Again, this is not extreme just becase it came from Sarah Palin.. However, the fact that someone is paranoid, mean-spirited and vindictive which are hardly Christian virtues is saying what many believe to be true has proved to be an easy target. But, even though Sarah has shown NO Christian virture in her public or private life, at the same time it’s attributed to her as deep faith and religious convictions. This appears to be the new Palin diatribe. If Palin says it, automatically that discredits facts and the truth of others real religious convictions.

    FYI

You will know GODS people by their fruit…Galatians 5:22-23: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” These are areas in which we all must be growing daily, striving to overcome our three main enemies: Satan (Jms. 4:7), the world (vs. 4; Rev. 18:4), and our own human nature (Rom. 8:7).

Syrin – it’s not just palin’s belief that Jesus will return in her lifetime that Joe wrote about. He also stated that she believes the earth is only 6,000 years old, that she is the chosen one and everything she does is based on these beliefs. And the article goes on to suggest that Joe overused “annonymous” sources which was first mentioned by the NYT I think. And the irony and most hypocritical part of that is the fact that the new york times uses annonymous sources on an ongoing basis as many other publications do. I read his book and I think it was well written with just as many people that went on the record as those that didn’t.

      They abuse Christianity.

They browbeat and steer Christians away from scripture and slot them through some sort of gateway into a fantasy world filled with witches living in ice castles and demons hiding behind every corner. And money is needed to fight these chimeras, so donate now.

Why should she personally comment on such trash. There were definitely lies told to joe M, some of which Sarah’s brother did refute on the record.

Strong people above the fray don’t wade in the same waters with shallow writers with a hateful agenda. It’s that simple.

Sarah’s still a darling, the “cool mom” amongst her kids friends, and a natural sweetheart to those who don’t wish her harm.

I agree that she should have ignored the petty ridiculousness of Joe’s wholly inaccurate and deceitful book. And I hope to God all his sources are being fed a heaping spoonful of nasty karma right now and for the rest of their lives.

Give em hell!!!! They deserve everything bad that comes their way. Good people don’t attack others, nor do they lie about others.

    Shame on Alaskans.

From the sounds of it Carolyn, you don’t live in AK, or anywhere close to Wasilla. I happen to live in Wasilla and am in a position to be in contact with vast members of the community over the 8 years I’ve lived here and it is rare to find someone who thinks the Palin family is a virtuous Christian family. On the contrary, everything Syrin has said is true. No truth issues from Palin’s mouth and everyone in this town, save her relatives- and even then, I guarantee they question- knows it. And if you don’t think there isn’t tension amongst family members, immediate and extended, I have a bridge to nowhere to sell you.

Hey carolyn, let’s talk about the lies in $arah’s lame books. And which one of her kids or their friends think she’s “cool”? Just curious since the last time I checked, brisdull and willow are hiding out in LA and Track has pretty much cut off contact with her. Her youngest daughter hasn’t been to school on a regular basis since 2008 and none of them call her “mom” – they call her sarah. And trig has been mia since his job ended after the campaign.

Indeed there is Karma, and Palin is getting a little of it right in the puss.

Joe McGinniss has an interesting article on his blog about her enablers. Namely her first real Media enabler. ADN. The newspaper knew what she was, but enabled her rise to power.

Read it and know why the main stream media is indeed lamestream. Sarah has contempt for them, because they enabled her.

I was a Bible student for many years (home Bible study groups) and the scripture you quoted is one of my favorites. Galatians 5:22-23: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”- Our country is a melting pot of many faiths, and this scripture is the common denominator. SP is trying to put Bible prophesy (her interpretation) and Armageddon into motion..that is where she crosses the line, despite her bigotry and hypocrisy.

Sarah Palin has not refuted one word of Frank Bailey’s “Blind Allegiance,” which is entirely first-person witness backed up by email documentation, nor has she refudiated one word of Geoffrey Dunn’s “The Lies of Sarah Palin,” which contained only documented sources of the stories that had circulated around here for years.

Joe McGinniss’ book was the poorest of the three for those who already know the stories; its major contribution is his popularity which ensures people of the rest of the United States and the world will access the psychopath Palin.

Why not release all the e-mails, Frank, if you truly want redemption?

Frank lost any possible credibility regarding what he, personally, has to say when he wrote of how Sarah called him in August, allegedly so upset because she “just found out that Bristol was pregnant”. In “Going Rogue” Palin clearly stated that Bristol and Levi told them in May, the story is backed up by each of them in their books, too. Why would Frank add that to the book knowing it was a ploy on Palin’s part to keep him in the fold, close to her, where she needed him at the time? Because he truly doesn’t see the horror of all that Sarah and her family has done, even when it pertains to him.

I don’t agree that Joe’s book is the worst of the 3 – I read them and I think the best ones are from Geoffrey Dunn and Joe McGiniss. Dunn’s book was a recap of several things but his presentation of the facts really drove home palin’s dysfunction personally and professionally. He offered up some new evidence on her and I really enjoyed his book. I read Frank Bailey’s book and it was painful to get to the end of it. He’s a liar. He sounds like a lovesick teenager and his whining, blathering and revolting crybaby apology for losing his christian values …..what a total creep and what a loser.

I agree that Bailey sounded like a lovesick teenager. From the beginning of the book I knew his involvement with Sarah’s campaign had nothing to do with his agreement with her policies & everything to do with his complete & total infatuation with her.
And Sarah being Sarah knew where his devotion came from-little head vs big- & used him until it was no longer beneficial to her.

      Oct 23, 2011 @ 05:10:58

IMO Blind Allegiance was the poorest book. It was a semi-revealing story of Sarah, soft peddling Bailey’s role in Troopergate, and undoubtedly many more dirty deeds he did in service to his “Queen.” Despite his apparent wising up about her, it was clear to many readers that he still nurtures very tender feelings for her. For a truthful expose of her and Bailey’s role, it was more than weak. It was also poorly written. I much preferred both the McGinniss & Dunn’s books. They had the hard hitting facts and knowledge that made even clearer the weaknesses in Bailey’s book. Their writing was excellent. Bailey could have written a barn burner. He didn’t. Those are just my personal perceptions. People see different things from within the frame of their own experiences & knowledge.
