Palin’s 60% DIS-approval rating by WE THE PEOPLE might have something to do with it.
You Betcha !
We’ll have more on this shortly, but Kay Henderson reports that Rick Perry and Sarah Palin have been left off the Ames Straw Poll ballot after a meeting of the Iowa GOP’s state central committee today:
Unannounced candidate Rick Perry will NOT be on the Straw Poll Ballot. Seven “announced” presidential candidates – Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, Thaddeus McCotter, Ron Paul, Tim Pawlenty and Rich Santorum — will be.
The Republican Party of Iowa’s state central committee convened this morning and one of the items on the agenda is to determine the names which will be printed on the ballot for their August 13 Straw Poll in Ames, Iowa.
Last time around – in August of 2007 — former Tennessee Senator/Hollywood actor Fred Thompson was heavily hinting at the time of the Straw Poll that he would enter the race, which he did in about a month later, in September. Thompson’s name was included on the 2007 Straw Poll ballot. This year’s “heavy hinter” is Texas Governor Rick Perry and the decision facing the party this cycle is whether his name will be on the ballot, along with another potential candidate who’s performing well in national polls — Sarah Palin.
Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman are also listed on the ballot.
Some Republicans, like conservative Steve Scheffler, had argued for including all potential candidates – including people like Rudy Giuliani – because the importance of Ames could be diminished without it.
However, not being on the ballot is not necessarily a loss for Perry, whose supporters have formed a 527 that had hoped to make a push for him at Ames, but was told they couldn’t buy space.
