Sarah Palin emails: Flippin’ out over a critical newspaper column

Like any elected official, Sarah Palin paid close attention to her detractors, particularly those with large audiences.

By Robin Abcarian

Radio personality and newspaper columnist Dan Fagan, a former supporter-turned-consistent Palin critic, was especially annoying.

In July 2008, Fagan claimed in the Anchorage Daily News that Palin and her staff had erased the contributions of Sen. Ted Stevens in a book created by the Alaska Statehood Celebration Commission commemorating Alaska’s first 50 years.

“What is surprising is Palin would attempt to erase the legacy of the longest serving Republican in the U.S. Senate,” wrote Fagan. “You would think it would be beneath even her. You would think.”

Palin hit the roof.

Who was Fagan’s editor, she asked her staff. “I need to call whomever it is bc ADN’s credibility plummets in my mind with this morning’s garbage. I’d like to tell the editors that.”

Someone, she said, needs “to write something for public consumption that calls him on his lies. Whoever wrote the flippin book could add to the explanation too.”

What ensued was a public battle, fought on the pages of Alaska’s largest daily newspaper.

First, Palin’s assistant, Kris Perry, wrote an indignant response.

“To accuse the governor and the administration of intentionally manipulating the book’s contents to slight Sen. Stevens ignores the inconvenient truth that its production, and editorial control of its content, was contracted out,” wrote Perry. She said the work was done by a Florida firm called Faircount Media Group.

Nine days later, in his regular newspaper column, Fagan called Perry’s explanation “the mother of all Palinista deceptions.”

He added: “A  commission headed by the governor’s best friend came up with the topics. I talked to the Florida publishing company and they said they worked directly with the governor’s office on the book and that the governor’s office approved every word.”

Palin was furious: “Where’s Faircounrs [sic] explanation via letter to the editor so we can shut up Fagan finally?”

      Fagan is pathetic! I tried to talk to this guy. He said he was Christian. I tried to share what I knew. He helped Palin get into office, this guy would say things like ” I know Sarah, what a heart of an angel. “I know her heart” she wants only the best for Alaska. But the ugly from Fagan is when he took direction from Palin and started to literally lie about me . Want to hear the story these idiots thought up concerning me? They said that of course my hate and anger towards Sarah the abuser of power is stemming from my many abortions!! YEP! and used my name full name on air. I guess I’ll need to get my medical records out. Btw most know I have 3 children 29, 26, 22 and I had three pregnancies! No abortions!

        Sounds like grounds for a lawsuit to me. Did you have a lawyer ask him to give a retraction or be sued? Perhaps he should be asked how many abortions he has been responsible for.

    The more you see these emails the more you see Mr. Bailey was right. I bet he is so happy to be out of her clutches.

      If Bailey was truly “out of her clutches” he’d have included many more emails in his book than he did. I have not read it but I believe in his own words he has stated that a certain percentage of their correspondence was not considered “appropriate” for his book.

      He’s still a lapdog to this day.

        You cannot fairly make that determination without having seen all the emails. Judging by the Palin emails I have seen so far, many are repetitive and inconsequential. I would guess that is true of many of his emails. I would also guess that he would withhold emails that incriminate him in unlawful activity. I can’t say I blame him. When push comes to shove, Palin is the one who should assume the responsibility for the criminal activity in which she engaged and encouraged. I think if you actually read the book, you will come away with a different feeling. I was jaded at first, but to me the book is a complete act of contrition. Bailey takes full responsibility for his unethical acts. I didn’t have a feeling that he was holding back. I also have great respect for the integrity of Jeanne Devon. I don’t believe she would be involved if he were still a “lap dog.”

    Narcissists actually like to be criticized, since it gives them an opportunity to whore themselves out yet again. I’m sure Mama Grifter was actually delighted with every Fagan article, since it gave her a chance to turn loose some more noxious gas.

    Ok ..Read this email.. http://palinemail.msnbc.msn.com/palinAll/pdf/19367.pdf

    Here is your challenge. Make this a first amendment rights issue! I have the nasty emails from 2 of the ADN editors..And, consider this please.. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/14/us/politics/14palin.html

    Do you notice that the state executive is comfortably sitting with the editor and chief of the only news paper in the state together going through posts entries to delete. Do you notice that they are speaking of BANNING… CENSORING citizens for exercising their first amendment rights as common practice? Not finish yet.. Also notice that in the top part of this email thge Palin’s clearly know who I and my husband are. However, in the bottom part of this email, Palin is so concerned that I know her husbands schedule and what car they drive… DUH! I live in Wasilla and do know the Palins! FRAUDS!!! And, finally my husband never asked on my behave to post after I was banned, actually 4 times at ADN and censored continually (posts deleted). Interesting why that is even stated .. Besides, he knows, I would’nt behave myself… 🙂

    Dear Sir or Madam,
    I’m writing to bring your attention to the increasingly inapropriate comments
    posted by the blogger syrin. Every day she posts comments that have absolutely no bearing
    on policy. For example, today the ADN posted a positive story on the national press
    Governor Palin is receiving, yet syrin accuses the governor of having an affair or makes
    hateful comments about her young children. I don’t often feel compelled to write, but
    syrin’s comments are never on topic, nor are they civil as is stated in the terms of use.

      Its the same lies fro this whackjob.. My kids, my young children… Funny, But I do not recall ever saying anything directly about her young children or any of her children. I say things like Sarah YOUR family needs you more than Alaska does! YOU ARE IMCOMPETENT!! Sarah, you don’t seem to be able to take care of your own family, WHY do some think you can take care of Alaska? Sarah, you don’t even know basic civics! The definition of narcissistic personality disorder was a good one and RESIGN SARAH RESIGN..

      In general I make comments about the dysfunction that I’ve notice for several years. The lies in her narrative and just exposing she’s a fraud! I said what I knew!

      More importantly I never gave a name or time that this affair took place, but the details became known. How? In Baileys book they give dates.. HUH? I didnt know. Interesting its just down right libalous… Why then were the details all provided and affidavits signed. Affair was brought up actually only one time. Bailey’s book is misleading in this respect..

      Guys.. The content of most of my posts were concerning POLICY… or lack there of! My state to this day is reeling and unstable from this episode…

        I didn´t find it misleading. I think Blind Allegiance paints a very favorable impression of you. Frank Bailey used that example (which I thought was hilarious) to paint sarah as a very petty person who generally was indifferent to good governing. But when it came to something petty that had nothing to do with state business, sarah roared into action. Alaska´s Executive Branch basically came to a grinding halt because of a constituent´s comments in a blog.

        Well, it was a bit misleading to me ( no big deal) when I read it I got the impression from the authors telling the story, that I continued to talk about the affair over and over. It was blogged about one time. ADN oddly, let it stand. Perhaps, it was that in Sarah’s mind that was the foremost indignate thing that I said ( truth hurts) that it was fuel for her. I’ll have to go back and read it again,and I don’t mind doing that at all.

    This is what sarah had to say on Fox News Sunday last weekend about the email release: ¨I think every rock in the Palin household that could ever be kicked over and uncovered anything, it’s already been kicked over,” she explained. “I don’t think there’s anything private in our family now.¨

    Another huge lie. She is hiding at least 2,400 of those ¨rocks.¨ Tens of thousands of those ¨rocks¨ have been redacted and cannot be ¨kicked over.¨ Again she accuses everyone of going after ¨anything private in our family.¨

    She also gave the following excuses as to why her ¨transparent government¨ was not so ¨transparent:¨ ¨A lot of those emails obviously weren’t meant for public consumption. They are between staff members. They’re probably between family members.”

    it is not ¨obvious¨ why sarah would want to hide emails revealing she was a ¨hardworking CEO¨ for nearly three years. It is ¨obvious¨ most of them would be ¨between staff members.¨ She forgot to add most of them would be about Alaska since she is stating the ¨obvious.¨ And yet again sarah tries to hide behind her family. Are the ones ¨between family members¨ discussing confidential information? Or is she just using what to her is another unassailable reason, ¨family¨ loyalty, for hiding public records? Does ¨family¨ loyalty permit one to hide ¨mismanagement¨ or even criminal behavior? It is clear sarah believes these are not state records – but her private property. In addition, sarah believes they are her family´s private property as well.

    One thing is certain, Palin is the master of projection. The more one reads these emails, the more reprehensible it is that the MSM has never called her out on her chronic victimhood. Sarah Palin is as much a professional victim as the person who survives financially by orchestrating fake “car accidents” and files lawsuits for claims of non-existent personal damages.

    The thing is that these e-mails were requested when she was chosen by McCain for VP, a very common request by journalists because, outside of Alaska, no one knew a thing about her.

    As it turned out, she was doing state business on PRIVATE accounts as well, 3 private accounts
    This way the private accounts are not public record, which is why most states do not ALLOW the use of private accounts for state business.

    The ONLY way to acquire the e-mails was to search the proper state accounts of more than 50 persons and Palin herself.

    There are thousands MORE e-mails that will NEVER see the light of day, from these private accounts that they were doing state business on.

    THEN you have Palin who was still governor, and after she quit, her Lieutenant Governor and all the staff that had worked for Palin, and the lawyers she had hired, stalling the release with ridiculous excuses, making outrageous redactions and in the end STILL withholding over 2 THOUSAND e-mails over 3 years later.

    It has taken longer to have these e-mails released than Palin served as governor!!

    Palin and her administration did everything they could think of to disuade the media from acquiring e-mails that ARE public record, Palin’s response from the first requests;

    “The office of the Republican vice-presidential nominee has quoted prices as high as ~~$15 million ~~for copies of state e-mails requested by news organizations and citizens. No matter what the price, most of the e-mails of Palin, her senior staff and other state employees won’t be made public until at least several weeks after the Nov. 4 presidential election, her office told msnbc.com on Thursday.”

    http://t.co/YgwWVXV

    In the end the original ~~15 MILLION~~ turned out to be……$725 !!!

    THAT speaks volumes in itself, just because the “free press” wanted to get to know the VP candidate through what was supposed to be “public records”.

    Obviously Palin and her administration are terrified that “we the people” should have proper access to what is supposed to the “public” record.

    Ever since the first request, Palin and her associates have behaved like frantic cats in a giant litter box.

      Please notice that many of the emails in the dump are from a yahoo account, one of her private ones. However, who knows what the other private accounts are? You have to know what the account is to file a FOIA request.

    CORRECTION…it was 15 million…..per CONTACT!…AP was quoted ~~~45 MILLION~~ for all of them…45 MILLION~~which turned out to be……. $725.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Palin took office in December 2006, after seeking office on a platform of~~ clean and transparent government.~~
    The price quotes reveal that Palin’s office has repeatedly tried to charge different news organizations the cost to reconstruct the same e-mail accounts of the governor, her senior staff and other employees.
    Each time an e-mail is requested, the office quotes the same cost of $960.31 for 13 hours to recover and search each employee’s e-mails.
    NBC’s price quote for e-mails sent to Todd Palin: $15 million.
    The AP’s price for e-mails between state employees and the campaign headquarters of Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain: $15 million.
    And the AP again, for e-mails between state employees and the National Park Service (on polar bears, wolves and other topics): $15 million.
    The AP’s news editor in Anchorage, Mark Thiessen, told msnbc.com he wasn’t authorized to say whether the AP, a nonprofit cooperative owned by newspapers, planned to pay the~~ $45 million for e-mails.
    You can read all the requests for records, and the responses of Gov. Palin’s office in this PDF file..
