Daily Beast: Inside the Sarah Palin Tell-All Book

by Shushannah Walshe

The Daily Beast’s Shushannah Walshe gets her hands on a leaked manuscript of former Palin aide Frank Bailey’s scathing new book and finds juicy allegations about Bristol, Troopergate, Newt, and more. Plus, additional juicy bits from the Sarah Palin tell-all.

The Daily Beast has obtained a copy of the manuscript draft of a tell-all book by a former aide to Sarah Palin. The scathing memoir of Frank Bailey’s time with Palin, first leaked to the Anchorage Daily News, recounts the former Alaska governor’s obsession with managing her image and her alleged involvement in illegal acts.Among the juicier allegations in Bailey’s unpublished 500-page book, titled In Blind Allegiance to Sarah Palin: A Memoir of our Tumultuous Years and filled with familiar Palin terms like “unflipping believable” and “holy jeeze”:1) Bailey Quashes Gossip About Trig Palin’s Birth Although most of the tell-all is incredibly scathing, Bailey—who was not only an administrative staffer but also booked personal travel for the Palin family and worked around the clock to please his boss—aims to put the gossip about Bristol Palin giving birth to Sarah’s fifth child, Trig, to an end:”The morning of the birth, when escorted behind the hospital double doors, I caught a glimpse of Sarah and hours-old Trig,” Bailey writes. “With a good-wishes carousel spinning around the governor and newborn, I left moments later. Passing through the waiting room, I saw Bristol lying on the couch. Because of all the rumors that still exist, let me say for the record (and I do not intend to dignify the absurdity further) she had not just given birth.”2) Palin Used Her Children for Political GainReferring to the announcement of Bristol’s pregnancy to the public, Bailey writes: “Instead of having to live with a few thousand Alaskans knowing about her mistake, this sweet sensitive girl was about to become the most recognized unwed mother in modern history, her life unfolding before at least 500 million people worldwide. Was that distinction somehow lost on her mother? Sarah, in her ambition—whether a person believes it is for personal gain or public service—possessed an empathetic void, including at times for her family; I came to feel similar emotional rumblings when I witnessed special needs infant Trig being hoisted like a prop in bare feet in the middle of wet winter nights on Sarah’s campaign bus tours. I believe she loved her children, but I also believe she had interpersonal blinders that keep her from appropriately prioritizing that love.”3) Palin Helps Publicize Rumors About Her FamilyA running theme in Bailey’s memoir is Palin’s obsession with righting wrongs she believes have been done to her. He writes that she lasers in on gossip about her and her family, and in her mission to kill the rumors, she makes sure that all of Alaska is aware of allegations. When gossip hit the 49th state that her infant Trig is actually Bristol’s baby, Bailey writes, Palin fired off an email to him, upset that the rumor still has legs. He writes that they did their best to kill the rumor, but it backfired:”We did our best to bombard both friendly and non-friendly media outlets with our outrage, blasting critics by suggesting their evil had no limit. In doing so, we stupidly ensured that everyone in the state now knew of the rumor, no matter how remote their village.”Bailey also writes that Palin wanted to address in person a blogger who had been commenting on the Anchorage Daily News’ website with accusations that she was having an extramarital affair:”Sarah spotted rumormongering [sic] Sherry Syrin-Whitstine in the audience. She grabbed me and said, ‘Here, let me introduce you to that clown. I’ll ask her about all the mean things she’s been saying about me and about my kids.’ With five congressional candidates in attendance, supporters galore, at least 10 outlet news organizations, along with cameras and recorders, here was the governor about to go and confront a blogger…” 4) Palin Broke Election LawBailey accuses Palin of blatant illegal activity. During her 2006 campaign for governor, Bailey alleges that Palin broke election law by working with the Republican Governors Association to shoot a campaign commercial. State candidates are not legally allowed to work with groups like the RGA, which ran ads at the time on her behalf, though supposedly “independent” of the Palin gubernatorial campaign. The ad showed Palin walking through a hotel in Anchorage, and Bailey says it was an RGA cameraman who shot it while directing the then-candidate to walk back and forth through the hotel.”[Palin aide] Kris Perry, when orchestrating that nutty-parade at the hotel, was following the directions of the RGA cameraman and/or whomever he was working for,” Bailey recounted. “Far worse, Sarah conducted multiple takes and knew exactly what was happening. She had, I suddenly believed, broken the law.”Bailey also writes that Palin skirted the law during the Troopergate affair. (Bailey is perhaps best known publicly for his involvement in the investigation into whether Palin abused her power to push her public safety commissioner, Walt Monegan, to fire her former brother-in-law Mike Wooten.) The investigation proved to be a thorn in Palin’s side during the vice-presidential campaign, and in August 2008, right before she became John McCain’s running mate, the administration released a phone call of Bailey pressuring a trooper lieutenant to investigate Wooten. Palin said Bailey had acted without her permission, but Bailey writes that he was just following the wishes of Palin and especially her husband, Todd, who fed him Wooten’s personnel file. Bailey writes of Todd’s obsessive involvement in trying to get Wooten fired, backing up allegations that Todd was acting as “shadow governor” during Palin’s term. Palin has denied any direct involvement.5) Palin Said She Hated Being GovernorBailey writes that Palin tired of the everyday grind of governing the state, as well as the constant criticism. On April 28, 2009, 2½ months before she resigned the Alaska governorship, she sent Bailey an email saying, “I hate this damn job.”6) Palin Supported Mike Huckabee Early in the 2008 RaceJohn McCain may have catapulted her to stardom, but the Arizona senator did not have Palin’s support in the primary. Instead, she supported former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee. In an email, Palin writes, “Huck’s a good pick for me. Just fyi.”7) Palin Hates Newt GingrichThe former House speaker makes an appearance in two parts of Bailey’s book. In 2008, Gingrich is a hero for praising Palin and mentioning her in the veepstakes. The book alleges that while the Palin inner circle was busy working to run the state government, it was also hard at work talking to the “Draft Palin” bloggers and aiming to get their gal on the GOP ticket. However, after the campaign, when Palin didn’t confirm her attendance at a D.C. fundraiser for the Republican congressional campaign committees, they instead asked Gingrich to speak. She responds to the news by bashing him in an email:”Yes, (Newt/GOP) are egotistical, narrow minded machine goons… but all the more reason God protected me from getting up on stage in front of 5,000 political and media ‘elites’ to praise him, then it be shown across the nation. At some point Newt would have shown his true colors anyway and we would have been devastated having known we’d earlier prostituted ourselves up in front of the country introducing him and acting like that good ol’ rich white guy is the savior of the party.”Palin’s comments could prove quite awkward if she and Gingrich meet on the 2012 campaign trail. From fissures in the Palin marriage (“We don’t talk”) to giggles over a doctored nude photo and the governor in an open bathrobe, Shushannah Walshe unearths more gems from the ex-Sarah Palin aide’s leaked manuscript. Plus, more tidbits about Bristol, Troopergate, and other Palin scoops.http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2011-02-23/sarah-palin-tell-all-more-details-marital-problems-nude-photo-more/

I’ve read the whole manuscript and I think my favorite excerpt of all is this:

“…Yes, (Newt/GOP) are egotistical, narrow minded machine goons… but all the more reason God protected me from getting up on stage in front of 5000 political and media “elites” to praise him, then it be shown across the nation. At some point Newt would have shown his true colors anyway and we would have been devastated having known we’d earlier prostituted ourselves up in front of the country introducing him and acting like that good ol’ rich white guy is the savior of the party.

Plus, I had nothing to wear, and God knew that too. Party machinery sucks. I can’t tell you how much I hate it – nothing ever changes – we went through it before and after the VP campaign… I’ve gone through it all my career. We just don’t fit into it, and maybe we should thank God for that.”

So, God concerns himself with Palin’s wardrobe choices or lack therof. OMG. This says it ALL. If this news gets out, Palin is DONE. I think she already is, but this would sill the dill.

As an atheist, it always astonishes me that there are such diverse beliefs among religious folk. Some people seem to think that there is a very ambivalent God who created the Universe and then stepped away and just lets people be.

Others believe that in the midst of approximately 1 billion people on this planet not getting enough food for even one meal every day, that God cares that they can’t possibly wear the same $500 outfit or $200 pair of shoes more than once, and actually performs some kind of intervention to prevent it.

Bailey should really have titled his book “Apocalypse of the Narcissist”.

I and at least one another person at Audrey’s “Palin’s Deceptions” site would say that Palin was obviously mentally ill, but we got a lot of negative backlash as it was deemed politically incorrect.

PS I really hope that those of you who are reading the whole manuscript on the Internet do plan on buying the book when it comes out.

It seems to me that even though someone else did the dirty deed of leaking it, that it would be a lot like stealing to read it and not pay for it.

And Bailey should go to jail if it turns out that he profited from illegally withholding information that should have been made public long ago, or given to the legislature when they were investigating ethics violations by Palin and her administration.

But there are two other authors, at least one of which I believe to be a very moral person, and who has been trying to get the word out about Palin for years.

If I could get access to it, I would pay $40. That’s probably more than what it would cost at B&N since all the independent bookstores within a 40 min drive are no longer. Where is the book and I will gladly write a check to AKM for her work

I’m sorry, but I am fairly open to the concept that Sarah Palin has the mindset of a woman who could/would fake a pregnancy, but I have yet to see evidence that would confirm it.

I have not seen any evidence that she actually gave birth at age 44 either, and I do have my suspicions.

But I definitely DO NOT think that disbelieving that a sitting governor of a very small state (where everyone knows everyone) actually publicly faked a pregnancy, makes you an immoral person.

I would even buy 10 copies of a self published book to give out to the people who didn’t believe she was a psychopath the first 3000 times I told them.

The authors would keep more of the money for themselves if they self published, and since they have to do most of the work on the book tour to promote it, they might as well keep their profits instead of waiting for the bozo publishing houses to move on this.

Bailey says the fake pregnancy wasn’t faked, because he saw Sarah in the hospital holding a baby.

Kind of reminds me of reporter Andrea Gusty insisting it was real because SP had a huge, VERY pregnant-looking belly when she interviewed her on April 13, 2008–

even though, as one example, SP had a TOTALLY flat stomach in the slim pencil skirt she wore ONE MONTH earlier on March 14, 2008, at the official event where she endorsed Parnell’s bid to run against Don Young.

So, let me get this straight. It’s impossible for someone who is faking a pregnancy to strap on an empathy belly, or pose in a hospital with a baby.

But SP’s Wild Ride labor story is possible. (Or should I say “stories,” as she has several versions of that insane whopper)

Is the real reason SP refuses to release Trig’s birth certificate because he wasn’t born on the day she says he was? And why did SP claim to have already released it, when she has done no such thing?

espcially when Bristol has never liked Mercede nor has never had any interest in being her friend or getting to know her. I find that circumstance of them in the kitchen weird. Levi has said he once rode snowmobiles with Todd, aren’t Todd and Keith good friends? I think Sarah has always denied Bristol and Levi’s relationship and Todd started to turn against it in 08.

My take: When Levi flunked out of school, the Palins helped him out (he’s said this, he’s also said he likes the family (or before he turned on them when he realized it would bring him money and fame) The teens were being irresponsible and voila, Tripp. I do believe Bristol and Levi were not together when 2008 began, and got back together in March. There’s no evidence that their relationship lasted 3 years. Levi dated multiple girls incl Lanesia and sometimes simultaneousl7 in 07 and Bristol was tied to at least 3 guys.

things weren’t NOT peachy in May 08 and I wouldnt be shocked if bristol and levi temp broke up around then, then she led him back into her life to control his eveyr move.

Well, if Bailey said he saw Sarah and newborn then that’s good enough for me!

    Riiiight.

Bailey says, “I caught a glimpse of Sarah and hours-old Trig,”

A GLIMPSE?? That’s it? Did he actually SEE her or the baby? Talk with her… HOLD the child?

    Whatever.

So it’s already been in dispute about Bristol having the baby, but the fact remains… Sarah did NOT give birth to Trig. Unless he actually saw the kid coming out, I don’t believe it. She can fake being in a hospital just as easily as she faked the entire 6 week pregnancy.

He fell for her BS about the pregnancy. Although he seems to be intelligent he certainly doesn’t know much about children born with special needs. How would she be entertaining visitors with a premature new born down syndrome child with a hole in his heart? A child such as this would be in NICU and constantly monitored without visitors except the parents wearing proper covering including their mouth. And he would not be in her office 2 days later for the staff to handle. His remark certainly hasn’t convinced me she gave birth to that child.

It has been in dispute about Bristol having the baby. But what he said was that Bristol had NOT just given birth. Well, we knew that. We believe that Tri-g was actually born in January.

I don’t know what baby he held in the hospital, but if it was the chunky one that Chuck and Sally were holding in the picture, that’s not actually the one that appeared in Mercede’s pictures… and he certainly wasn’t eight weeks, or even five weeks, premature.

I will buy Bailey’s book when (if?) it’s published, and I fervently hope it is published. IMO, Bailey’s comment about Bristol definitely not birthing Trig is a straw man argument. Many “Trig truthers” simply question the little boy’s parentage, leaving Bristol out of it. The whole story beggars disbelief–the pregnancy concealed by so-called tight abs, the sudden ballooning then shrinking of the belly, including the flat rectangle on which Palin did a little drumbeat in the Elan Frank video, etc. The preposterous wild ride story, as told in Sarah’s own words, is incredible. Flight attendants said her state of pregnancy was not obvious. No medical professional would give the green light for Palin to fly under the circumstances–high-risk pregnancy, membranes broken, preterm labor, special needs child. Yet fly she did–bypassing NICUs in Texas, Seattle, and Anchorage, to give birth in Wasilla at a hospital that doesn’t even handle twin births. Oh wait–speaking in Alabama a few months ago, SP said Trig was born in Anchorage. Wonder where Bailey saw her in the hospital? Is that in the manuscript?

It is footage like this that makes me wonder……….however, I also know that pictures can be altered, and that the camera often distorts peoples true body weight, etc.

The actual story of the “Wild Ride” is more compelling to me. I had questions about that from the moment it was reported up here.

Pictures of a skinny, then pudgy Bristol don’t persuade me at all. I had been skinny all my life until turning 16 when I pudged out and had a very round face. Then things settled down and by the time I was 18, back to my 5 foot 5 inch frame and 115 lb. weight until my forties. And, my own mother who was slender too, only gained 10 lbs. when she was pregnant with me, so you can’t say that a 7 month pregnant woman ALWAYS looks just so, etc. For instance, I never looked like that Elfman actress did at 7 months, even at 9 months, with either pregnancy.

I think that in your first video, the young man at 6:11 is probably Chris Tuck, one of our state legislators. The thing is, that I do have my suspicions, but video collages of a fully clothed Palin are not going to prove it to me. There are many people who saw the woman in person on a daily basis and believed her to be pregnant. The woman is my neighbor on Lake Louise, and I know several people who know her, and they did not suspect a thing.

That is why I lean towards the theory, but require solid proof (dna, unbiased witness to the birth, birth certificate, lie detector test, etc.) before I will completely believe it to be the absolute truth.

I also believe that the story that she officially gave out to the public of the “Wild Ride” is a much worse reflection on her than if she were a mother trying to protect a young daughter from scandal by faking a pregnancy. It is a very odd thing to do in this day and age, but quite common at an earlier time in our history.

Besides, there are so many other odd things that the woman does that I don’t need to know for sure or not that she faked a pregnancy to know that she’s unsuitable to hold elected office.

Correction, the woman is a neighbor of mine on Lake LUCILLE (not Louise). Many many years ago I recreated at another lake in Alaska called Lake Louise (not the one in Canada which is puny in comparison to the Alaskan one). I sometimes mix up the names. It doesn’t help that Sarah Palin lives on Lake Lucille and her middle name is Louise!

I would not call you a bot. Perhaps you haven’t followed the topic as closely as some of us. When I read what the people who were there at the time saw and what they thought, then I look at the many videos and photos (too many and too well-documented to all be faked), as well as hear Sarah’s own description of what she calls her wild ride–I smell a rat.

What pregnant woman drums on the baby in her (strangely flat and rectangular-edged) womb? When Palin announced she was seven months pregnant, one person asked, “Where is that baby? In your pocket?” Taking everything together, I do not believe Sarah Palin gave birth to Trig Palin that April day. I’m about the same size as Sarah Palin, and I was a ballet teacher, so I was very fit when I was young. Based on my own pregnancies and those of everyone else I’ve ever known, a pregnancy is impossible to conceal for as long as Palin says she hid hers–seven months–with one exception, and that is a woman who is very large and big-bellied to begin with. Throughout those seven months, her midsection looked slim, her abdomen flat. Where was that baby, indeed?

Remember that some of the photos showing a slender Palin were published in newspapers, etc., shortly before Palin announced that she was pregnant, so there would have been no reason for anyone to Photoshop or otherwise alter them.

My fifth child was born about four hours after the first little amniotic fluid trickle, and that’s not unusual. So I don’t buy the wild ride. If I were on a jury and heard that kind of testimony from a witness under oath, I wouldn’t believe her story. No physician would approve lengthy air travel under the circumstances Palin describes, for fear of a potential malpractice suit if nothing else. We all know what you do if you even think your membranes have been breeched–you see a medical professional right away.

And what can we make of Palin now saying that Trig was born in Anchorage, when all along she said he was born in Wasilla? She just forgot where he was born?

Sarah Palin has lied about so many things–the bridge to nowhere, the Branchflower report, Track’s non-existence combat experience–it seems plausible to me that she would lie about a pregnancy if she believed it would bolster her credibility with pro-life conservatives. And it seems extremely implausible that she was pregnant and gave birth according to the timeline and circumstances she has presented.

I smell a rat also. But I could not convict a woman of faking a pregnancy based on a bunch of pictures of her fully clothed and in most cases wearing a jacket or parka. I have said that I am two thirds there in believing that she may have faked it, but……………if I speculated aloud about this suspicion to probably 98% of Alaskans, they would think that I was off my rocker. And I really do know people who know the woman (don’t admire her, but know her), and none of them think it was faked.

It would be difficult to pull this off at the hospital, but not impossible, I suppose. I guess that you could request that only family members and your doctor attend to you. And if you instructed your doctor to protect your privacy at all costs, then they would not tell. And just because Sarah Palin told her doctor that her membranes ruptured does not mean that a) the doctor was guilty of malpractice for telling Sarah Palin that she could go ahead and fly, or b) that the doctor didn’t have a problem with Palin’s flying because she wasn’t actually pregnant. There could be another scenario, which would be c) Sarah Palin told her doctor that her membranes had ruptured and the doctor told her to get to a hospital immediately, but instead, Sarah Palin disobeyed her doctors advice and got on a plane and risked her babies life.

My rat-smelling goes more off of the story of the birth and reactions to the questions of reporters than the pictures. With my first pregnancy I could wear my usual pants until five months, at six months I was put on complete bedrest and only a very few close friends and family actually saw me. From behind, I never looked pregnant. I left the hospital after only 36 hours. Nobody asked my doctor if I actually gave birth or not, and we did not take video of the birth, and only a very few pictures. The baby was two weeks early, but was absolutely gorgeous due to my having a C-section, and very plump and not very newbornish looking.

Now I imagine that if people suddenly realized that very few people actually saw me looking pregnant, and were told that we really only had the five pictures and in three of them the babies face is obscured by a blanket, and started looking into this very personal moment in my life by asking my doctor if I really gave birth, I probably would have copped an attitude of “it’s nobodies dang business”, and dismissed them as ridiculous.

On the other hand, this woman is a publicity hog who had a very elevated opinion of the importance of herself and “The First Family”. She likes to show off her kids, and likes to portray herself as an awesomely tough frontier woman. My instincts tell me that there would have been official pictures of her looking tired but happy (so that we would appreciate that giving birth is not for sissies) in her hospital bed, holding the newborn with Todd and kids beaming at them (Sarah in full make-up of course) in the background, and followed by another picture of her a mere 48 hours later in the governors office, looking tanned, fit, energetic and performing some official act while simultaneously rocking the two day old infant with her other hand. Instead, not much was made of this rare (only the second governor in the history of the country to do so) and amazing geriatric childbirth. There was an announcement but little else.

So yes, I smell a lot of rats. But no, I still cannot say that I believe without question that Governor Sarah Palin faked a pregnancy. Perhaps someday soon, someone will cough up some hard evidence to completely convince me, and then the three people that I’ve admitted my crazy suspicions to will say “Oh my God, we thought you were stark raving mad, but you suspected all along!”, and I will say, “Actually, there were people out there who knew this had happened long, long, before I ever was willing to credit it”, and those people will be thought to be some of the most brilliant people on the face of the planet.

But until then, you can call me………Still Somewhat Skeptical.

PS I don’t know what is common in the Lower 48, but I know many woman who have given birth in their own homes up here, and never see a doctor during their entire pregnancy. My mother had my younger sibling at home all by herself. All women do not necessarily call a medical professional when their membranes break. Of course all women that are pregnant with a baby with a 50% chance of being born with a heart defect most probably would.

There are others who know Palin who state unequivocally that she gave birth to Trig, e.g., Anne Kilkenny, who is not an admirer of Palin’s conduct as Governor. I wish she would be more specific about where and when this birth took place. Has there ever been a baby born around whom there are so many seemingly contradictory issues swirling? Probably most of us will never know all the facts, and really we don’t need to, since it appears that Palin’s chance of holding national office is nil. She has thrown away her own political future with both hands. Still, I have to wonder. Trig looks a lot like Piper to me, yet so much of the the pregnancy and birth narrative is bunk. Palin is one of the strangest political figures ever, right up there with Lyndon LaRouche. Those of us in the lower 48 owe a huge debt of gratitude to Syrin, Gryphen, and the other bloggers who have revealed what lies beneath Palin’s pretty plastic surface.

I wonder if you would have felt differently if you were running for public office. I know my first reaction (had I truly given birth) would be to ignore the crazies, but if I felt that it was getting in the way of a substantive conversation about my credentials and policy, I would have provided a birth certificate or DNA or personal family photos or something. I would want to shut the critics up and move on to more important matters.

I know Anne very well. We’ve worked side by side on community boards and have found common ground on many community issues. FYI, Anne and I have had NO admiration for Sarah way before her short unethical stint as governor. We live in Wasilla, she was a user and abuser there first! Anne, bless her heart has really no direct connection to be able to state unequivocally anything about Sarah, let alone that Sarah gave birth to Trig, e.g., or anyone else.

I wondered if you knew Anne. No doubt you’re familiar with the famous letter she wrote about Palin in 2008. Interesting that Anne doesn’t really have personal knowledge about Trig’s birth. Thanks as always for your insider’s info.

“Palin is one of the strangest political figures ever”

Well you hit the nail on the head there!

I have only ever visited Palingates a couple of times, but I just did, and there was a comparison of pictures of Palin when she was dressing herself, before she became nationally known, with the way she looked when she was being dressed by the RNC, and then the style that she has adopted since then.

Whoever wrote the article seemed to think that while Palin dressed rather strangely before the VP nomination, that it was her own style and “refreshing”. This reminded me of a time when I was watching her (pre-fame days) on TV for some reason, perhaps a State of the Union Address or testifying in front of the Legislature, I don’t really know what it was. She was wearing the most bizarre (but not exactly unattractive) dress or top with an almost Elizabethan collar (not the ruffly circle thing, but more of a half circle that went around the back and was about as high as the top of her head). It was so unusual that I called my husband into the room to take a look at it. I wish that they’d had a picture of that outfit, because I think it makes everything else she’s ever worn look downright mundane (with the exception of some of her shoe choices). She also wore some kind of animal around her neck once, I’m not sure if it still had the head or not, but I thought it was pretty over the top, even for Alaska. Something that only people up here would wear during Fur Rondy, but it appeared to be part of an outfit that she’d worn to work that day.

And then I distinctly remember her answer to a question in one of those election booklets that they had out, though I don’t recall if it was the governors race or the lt. governor race. In answer to a candidate question that went something like “What is something that your close friends would be surprised to know about you?”, and she said something like, “My friends would be surprised to know that I really don’t enjoy shopping.” I remember thinking at the time that it was a fib, because I have never seen a reluctant “clothes horse” in my life. Then the whole VP campaign scandal came out with the accusations that she’d been told to go out and buy a couple of outfits and actually went on the “Mother of All Spending Sprees” on some poor Republican donors dime. Too funny!

Anyway, the pictures really brought home to me that the woman has aged a bit in the last two years. I’m not sure if it’s stress, make-up, or plastic surgery, but in my opinion she is looking her age now. Guess it happens to the best (and worst) of us!

I’ve enjoyed the many photos of Palin in outfits ranging from garish to tasteful and flattering. I saw a picture of her wearing a cute kuspuk and boots in a grocery store, and I didn’t know what the garment was called until an Aleut friend told me. Like you, I’ve noticed that she seems to be aging rapidly over the past year or two. Stress and too much plastic surgery probably play a role, but I suspect another culprit may be responsible as well. Palin is nearing menopause. I sailed through most of my 40s congratulating myself on my smooth neck, still-slender waist, bright eyes–and then that estrogen started to go and, within months, my face looked puffy and tired, the skin on my neck and hands became thin and crepey–it was shocking and depressing. If Palin isn’t there yet, she will be soon. I wonder if the hormonal changes will take some of the wind out of her sails. Malia Litman has suggested that Palin might announce she’s running for POTUS in April during a scheduled radio show. If her hormones are deserting her, will she have the fire in the belly to run? On one hand, I hope she doesn’t. But on the other hand, it would be something to see, wouldn’t it? If she found the Couric interview difficult, how would she handle the really hard work of running for President. It’s a long, grueling haul and she doesn’t seem suited, either by temperament, intelligence, or experience, to withstand it.

It is interesting article from Daily Beast about Sarah. I hope that she doesn’t run for President.
