Alaska no longer exists — only Sarah Palin exists

by Marty Beckerman

The new Vanity Fair Sarah Palin profile is enthralling: rage-fueled breakdowns, domestic violence (is there a battered spouse center for First Dudes?) and Madoff-worthy financial manipulation. Equally fascinating is the climate of fear and confusion that Michael Joseph Gross discovered in Wasilla, where townspeople are terrified of discussing their former mayor/governor, and deeply uncomfortable with the world-famous media creation that she has become. "To appreciate how alien Palin has become in Wasilla, how inscrutable to her own people, you have to wrap your mind around the fact that Sarah Palin is more famous than any other Alaskan, ever," Gross writes. "It still does not quite seem real to most Alaskans that there are all these thousands of people in the Lower 48 turning out for … Sarah."

But if they want surreal, they should travel to the Lower 48. Because it's not until you leave Alaska that you realize it no longer exists — only Sarah Palin exists.

Palin doesn't merely represent the Alaskan archetype in the national consciousness; she is Alaska. The rest of us are stars in her constellation, fish in her sea

Whereas Alaska used to enter my every conversation, I now rarely bring it up—if I've had enough whiskey and someone asks, I'll grimace and mutter yeah, "Palin country."

But as much as I'd like to avoid the subject, I'm probably stuck with it forever.

    I could not have said it any better…Except to say that I'm NOT terrified of Palin or anyone else. Folks, this woman is highly incompetent and unethical. I personally told her so when the city manager position had to be created because of her abuses. She's someone who as mayor abused power and showed her destain for the rule of law. She followed that pattern because she was NEVER held accountable, good ethics in a public servant is not a priority evidently.
    Alaska, like every other thing that is associated with Sarah Palin has been religated as a mere pile of moose droppings.

    Syrin, I had come to this conclusion some time ago. Sarah has hijacked your state. Being the selfish person that she is, she will only be thrilled to hear the news. While she claims to love Alaska, she does everything she can to rape and pillage the state and its people. The light at the end of the tunnel is that the Tundra Turd is headed for a big fall. I believe that with all my heart and soul. All signs are pointing to her currently teetering on a precipice. In the meantime, I applaud the courage you have shown in speaking out about this vile woman. Hopefully, she will eventually end up where she belongs: behind bars or in a mental hospital. Much as I despise everything she represents, I also believe she suffers from a severe mental disorder that prevents her from ever changing her course.

    Hello..Good for is best to show courage and stop that nonsense at the outset..we lost and many others did..when a city administration assessed state bonds to constituents of the city and county without due process or vote. This act against decency caused me to extend my hobby of investigating grass roots corruption..I found it (corruption) was staggering..and investigating not without danger..there are many stories in that 20 years..if it does not feel right it usually isn't..Ms. Palin is apparrently what everyone says she a choral choir they sing out how she blew it..gave it up for nothing but hypocracy..once again..good for you..Peace Tony

    so WHY will no one go on record in these articles like the Vanity Fair piece that just came out. The personal relationship between Todd and Sarah are titillating, but I would have preferred to see a piece by a nationally renown reporter focus on the inept way she managed the City of Wasilla and the State of Alaska…the real nuts and bolts of it. The real opinion of people still dealing with the fall out. The Trig-truthiness and the relationship she has with Todd and her kids are all interesting color surrounding the central theme that she is an idiot with a loud voice. I just don't see why that message can't get out so that the MSM will show it….The only thing I agree with Sarah on is the Lamestream Media is more interested in ratings than in reporting FACT. And she should shut her mouth about it because if they every do start to report FACT instead of allowing her to manipulate the message, her house of cards will crumble.

    This is what the author of the Vanity Fair article, Gross, had to say today;

    Thanks for the extra information from the author. I heard that he's been all over today's news, explaining his investigation of the dysfunction of the Palin Family. He discussed his piece in a calm, cool and collected way… Sounds like Sarah and her sycophants arn't handling it quite as well..
