Palin: Going all grizzly

OK — if you can believe what you read in the press — half-term former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin appears more stolid "mama grizzly" than squealing "mama marmot" on at least one issue. (Excerpt: Sarah Palin is a mama grizzly, because here is what I know about mama grizzlies: They don't think. They react. Sometimes in the dumbest of ways.)

Here's what People magazine claims she has to say about the breakup (again) of daughter Bristol and Levi Johnston, the father of their child:

"Bristol is strong, she is independent, and she knows what is right for her son."

"Her son." Not "their son."

This is, indeed, the way it works in the grizzly world. The males breed the females and then they go their opposite ways. And there is little doubt that the grizzlies that become mamas as a result are "strong" and "independent."

Of course, they are in part strong and independent because they have to be, because papa grizzlies are sometimes prone to engage in infanticide. Actually, papa grizzlies have a bad reputation for killing cubs in general. Those of other bears, their own, it doesn't seem to matter much.

Papa grizzlies have very bad social skills. Mama grizzlies aren't much better. They are, in fact, well known for attacking even innocent people if they think the people are too close to their cubs.

Hopefully, Bristol won't attack anyone who gets close to the baby. And thankfully, Sarah has yet to accuse Levi of attempting infanticide.

She's settled, if again you can believe the press, for simply calling him "mean-spirited" and "malicious."

Which would, indeed, make him sound like some papa grizzlies.

Hello..As far a Ms. Palin goes..well she probably has a long history of riggers and all types of petroleum..on the bears..The grizzly I have seen are not that gre bear eous..the California brown is a bear that will attack with little or no seen reason..the black bears are wild..but real sweethearts..found in circuses and things..I wonder if the climate up there makes the bears more aggressive?..really something to think about..Peace Tony
